Oxford Corridor Project

Types of work completed by the contractor: The Oxford CorridorProject Track and Civils contract included the following works to be undertaken:

Complex S&C Renewals: Due to the proximity / interlacing of much of the S&C in the Oxford Station Area, many of the S&C installation required complex staging and methodology to be installed either within a sequence of 27/52hr possessions (such as Oxford South Jn) or within blockades of 7-14 days.

Plain Line Renewals: Within the Oxford Corridor Project there were Plain Line renewals carried out on virgin ground (e.g., the Down Oxford Relief which was a brand-new line installed between approx. 64m 40ch and 66m 0ch) and through operational Bay Platforms (1&2) and Through Platforms (3&4). With the Platform area track renewals, fully compliant Platform gauging was carried out in line with the track design and track standards. Several methods of renewal were carried out during the Project including conventional renewal using RRVs and Engineering Trains, New Track Construction (NTC) Train and PEM / LEMs to install / re-align up to 200m CWR plain line panels;

·       New Oxford Down and Up Sidings

·       IRJ Recoveries

·       Spot Re-sleepering

·       Platform Re-copering & Canopy Renewals

Project Success:

·      Completed on time and on budget in Summer 2018.

·      Achieved successful and safe delivery, despite Carillion liquidation in February 2018, with large number of team having to transfer into Network Rail, whilst core works were ongoing

·      Winner of the 2019 National Rail Awards: ‘Major Project of the Year’ see photo above

The Oxford Corridor Project (Phases 0 and 1) was predominantly a signalling and track upgrade programme, between Didcot and Heyford on the DCL route. Members of the current ECI-RS Leadership team (Led by Phil Edwards (Now ECI-RS Delivery lead) and supported with Rhidian Booth (CRE Track lead), Barzu Zare (Programme lead)) were an integral part of both the Permanent Way and Civils works which was delivered from scoping, design development, detailed programme and planning (including integration), through to construction, Entry into Service (EiS) and Project close out. The scope included installation of 29no S&C units plus circa 8km of plain line, Sidings Upgrades of both Up Oxford Sidings and Down Oxford Sidings from a track and Civils perspective. Other Civils works included demolishing existing 2no Platforms and re-building them, new Station Canopies, Platform Re-copering and Platform raising to tie in to track alignment plus a major Underbridge Renewal of Castle Mill Stream. Led by the ECI-RS leadership team (then through Network Rail), these works were completed within both blockade and conventional weekend possessions, culminating in a successful final commissioning of the new layout in Summer 2018.
